RUTHVEN -- A Celebration of Life honoring Michael D. Markley, Jr. will be held Saturday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at Craig and Lisa's home, 34450 Fairview Beach Lane, Ruthven. The Rev. Doug Dingel will officiate. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Dennis Markley, Jr., son of Michael D. and Carmen (LeStrange) Markley, was born June 26, 1960 in Spencer. He received his education in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven Consolidated School in 1978. Following high school, Mike continued his education at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon.

Mike was blessed with a daughter, Cassandra.

Mike was employed as a machinist and tool and die maker. He worked at Superior Manufacturing, Hayward Pool Company in New Jersey and then moved back to the area where he was employed at Berkeley's, Pure Fishing, and Eaton's.

Mike enjoyed gardening and camping at Lost Island Lake. He was a talented singer and loved playing his guitar, spending time with his friends and he especially loved his cats. Mike had a big heart and a great sense of humor. He liked a good joke and was always ready and willing to debate an issue. Mike loved his daughter Cassandra very much and cherished the time he spent with her.

Mike passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019 at his home in Spencer, at the age of 58. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his step mother, Sandi Markley.

He is survived by his daughter, Cassandra Markley of Richfield, MN; his father, Michael Markley of Ruthven; his mother Carmen and her husband, Bruce Mills of Des Moines; brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Lisa Markley of Ames/Ruthven; as well as other relatives and friends.
