Services for Wayne F. Truog were held on Saturday, June 1, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Pastor Beth Odor officiated. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg.

Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Frederick Truog, son of Frederick Henry and Ruth Leone (Draman) Truog, was born June 5, 1934 at his home in Rush Lake Township. He received his education in Mallard, graduating from Mallard High School in 1952.

On June 12, 1955 Wayne was united in marriage to Olga Mardell Darr at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. To this union three children were born. Wayne farmed his entire life, raising hogs, cattle and chickens as well as doing grain farming. He retired in 2008 when he and Mardell moved into Emmetsburg.

Wayne worked for the A.S.C. office measuring ground for them. He served on the Rush Lake Cemetery Board and worked the voting booths on election days, in Mallard, for many years.

Wayne enjoyed watching sports of all kinds and playing cards with family and friends, especially 500 and Cribbage. He had a great sense of humor and was always on the receiving end of April Fools jokes. Wayne loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of his favorite treats was homemade ice cream.

Wayne passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 84. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Ruth Truog; his son, Keith Truog; daughter-in-law, Vicki Truog; brother-in-law, Don Peters; a niece, Carol Peters; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clelland and Ellen Darr;

He is survived by his wife, Mardell Truog of Emmetsburg, his daughters, Ruth Wynn and her husband, Rick of Little Elm, TX and Becky Goeders of Mallard; ten grandchildren, Nytasha Truog of Emmetsburg, Jamie Kompelien of Cottonwood, MN, Jeremy Truog of Spencer, Heather Angel of Little Elm, TX, Eric Muller of Little Elm, TX, Dawn Beving of Emmetsburg, Ashley Goeders of Cylinder, Brandi Allen of Emmetsburg, Travis Goeders of West Bend, and Corey Goeders of Mallard; twenty nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Jane Peters of Emmetsburg; as well as many other relatives and friends.
