Private graveside services for 88-year old Carmen Bianca Hellenschmidt, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, will be at St. Luke's Luther Church in Fairville, IA at a later date. Carmen passed away peacefully with family on July 31, 2018, in Hubbard, Iowa.

Carmen was born at the family farm near Cylinder, Iowa, on March 7, 1930, to Laurenetta and William Miller. She went to Emmetsburg Teacher's College and then the University of Northern Iowa. She worked as a teacher and grade school librarian, retiring from the Waterloo Public Schools. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and an avid bridge player and reader. She said she mostly enjoyed just being with her family.

Carmen is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Cordelia Zinnel and Alvina Siemer, husbands Richard Bell and Roger Hellenschmidt, sons Curt and Colin, stepdaughter Jan Seller, grandsons Zachariah and Ian Bell, and stepgrandson Erich Hellenschmidt.

Carmen is survived by children Craig Bell (Sharon) of Iowa Falls, IA, Corey Bell (Becky) of Glenpool, OK, and Laura Beckwith (Kenneth) of Columbus, OH, stepsons Mark Hellenschmidt (Glee) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Paul Hellenschmidt (Marcia) of Boone, IA, grandchildren Nicole Benso (Shawn), Carmen Brashier (Brandon), Mariah Bell, Bianca Webber (Levi), Olivia Beckwith, Eleanor Beckwith, Allison Bell, Louisa Beckwith, Caleb Bell, and Rosalyn Beckwith, and stepgrandchildren Blake and Holly Hellenschmidt, great-grandchildren Mackenzie and Bella Benso, Izabelle and Jackson Bowers, and Nora Bell Webber, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the National Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601.

The family of Carmen wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful nurses and staff at the Hubbard Care Center.
