E-Hawks Sweep Wolverines In County Roundball Matchup

WEST?BEND - The Emmetsburg basketball teams claimed a pair of in-county wins Monday night against West Bend-Mallard/ Gilmore City-Bradgate. The Lady E-Hawks earned a 68-22 win over the Lady Wolverines, while The E-Hawk boys claimed a 5-39 win over the Wolverines in the nightcap matchup.

In the girls contest, Emmetsburg jumped out to an early 19-3 lead over the Lady Wolverines after the opening quarter of play, and extended their lead to 45-7 at the intermission.

The third quarter would see both teams score just seven points each in the quarter as Emmetsburg led 42-14 to start the final quarter and cruised to the 68-22 final victory.

Emmetsburg was led by Molly Schany's 18 points, with Abbie Schany adding 12 points. Raven Brown scored eight points, with Lindsay Carter and Taylor Steinkamp both scoring six points each. Hailey Foxhoven, Heidi Malm and Mackenzie King all scored four points each, while Gretchen Hofstad and Somer Hudson both tallied three points each.

For WBM/GCB, Autumn Mogler led the effort with nine points, while Trissa Schmidt added six points. Madison Wickman tallied three points, while Karissa Montag and Tori Fogarty both chipped in two points each.

The boys contest saw a closer matchup, as Emmetsburg would take a two-point, 11-9 lead after one quarter, but opened up a 25-16 advantage at the intermission. In the third quarter, both teams cooled on offense, but the E-Hawks held a 34-21 lead to start the final quarter and ripped off 23 points down the stretch to take the 57-39 final victory over the Wolverines.

Emmetsburg was led by Zach Mason with 12 points, while Ben Dunlap added 10 points. Blake VerMulm scored nine points, with Corbin Saathoff and Clayton Swanson both adding seven points each. Dylan Kibbie tallied five points, while Hunter McAllister scored four points and Tim Geelan chipped in three points.

West Bend-Mallard/ Gilmore City-Bradgate's offense would be paced by the 10 point effort of Noah Fehr and nine points from Thomas Fehr. Danie Riesenberg added eight points to the coffers, while Dexter Knobloch scored five points in the contest. Thad Fogarty would come away with four points and Cole Hoskins rounded out the scoring with three points.
