With Emmetsburg's entry into the Twin Lakes Athletic Conference this school year, a new facet has been added to conference athletics. Each year, the Twin Lakes Conference conducts surveys of athletic referees at conference games to evaluate each of the participating teams on the sportsmanship displayed by the players, coaches and fans of the member schools.

At the conclusion of each season, these sportsmanship rankings are compiled and released to the Twin Lakes Conference schools. For the 2017 Volleyball season, Emmetsburg finished third overall in the conference sportsmanship rankings, after Southeast Valley and St. Mary's of Storm Lake tied for the top honors.

West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate would place sixth in sportsmanship, but Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire did not have enough ballots returned to meet a 70 percent requirement for ranking under conference rules.

Emmetsburg had 100 percent of its ballots returned, one of only three schools with 100 percent return. The other two schools were Sioux Central and South Central Calhoun.

In the ratings, a number of 1.00 is the best possible ranking. Emmetsburg received a 1.00 ranking for Player sportsmanship and 1.05 ranking for Coaches sportsmanship. With a ranking of 1.00 for Fan sportsmanship, Emmetsburg's average Sportsmanship ranking was 1.017.

West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate received a player sportsmanship ranking of 1.00 and a coaching sportsmanship ranking of 1.12 and a Fan ranking of 1.00 for an overall average ranking of 1.040.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire also received a 1.00 Player ranking and a 1.00 Coaches ranking along with a Fan ranking of 1.29, for an overall average of 1.097.
